Extension Service offers preserving course

The course, which covers various preserving methods, is similar to the service’s Master Gardener course and carries the same service-hour requirement.

The program has not been active in the tri-county area in recent years, but the Extension Service is hoping to revitalize it.

Master Food Preservers conduct workshops and demonstrations, test pressure canner gauges and may volunteer to assist with the Nutrition Education program serving low-income audiences.

Cost is $70. Space is limited, so reservations must be made by March 8.

Applicants will be contacted in the order they apply. Those the interview committee believes best meet the program’s criteria will be admitted.

Sessions will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays from April 29 through June 24. In addition, an orientation session will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 22.

Applications may be picked up at the local extension office at 2050 N.E. Lafayette Ave., downloaded at or ordered at 503-373-3763.
