Evergreen jet goes off runway
An Evergreen International Aviation Lear jet overshot the runway during a Monday afternoon landing and ended up nose down in a ditch. However, McMinnville Fire Chief Rich Leipfert said none of the three occupants, who were not identified, sustained injuries.
By the time ambulances and fire trucks reached the rugged and wooded site, out beyond the end of the runway, “the three-person crew had extricated itself from the aircraft and shut down the power and fuel,” he said.
He said no fuel leaks were detected and no fire ensued.
Leipfert said he didn’t know what caused the jet to overshoot the runway. He said it wouldn’t be feasible to develop a damage estimate until the plane could be removed from the ditch and examined.
He said investigation has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration, which was not allowing media access to the site Monday.
