Discussions about MacReads book scheduled

Participants are reading Rock’s novel, “My Abandonment,” about a girl living with her father in Portland’s Forest Park. The characters were partly inspired by a real case, although the circumstances are fictional.

Rock, a professor at Reed College, has written several other books, as well. He will talk about his work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Linfield College library. Admission is free.

Book discussions are scheduled:

  • Wednesday, April 3, 2 p.m. in the McMinnville Public Library’s Carnegie Room.
  • Thursday, May 9, 7 p.m. in the Old Oak wine bar downtown, with Linfield professor Dave Sumner.
  • Tuesday, May 14, 7 p.m. in the public library.

Copies of the book are available at either the college or public libraries. The libaries are sponsoring the ninth annual MacReads along with the Linfield Department of English and Third Street Books. For more information, call college librarian Susan Barnes Whyte, at 503-883-2517.
