Clatskanie can’t touch Pirates
DAYTON – Sisters Cassi and Kylee Hill each went 3-for-4, driving in a combined five runs, as No. 2 Dayton softball overwhelmed No. 15 Clatskanie, 11-0, in six innings in Class 3A first-round playoff action Wednesday night at Dayton High School.
Kylee Hill hit a pair of triples for the Pirates (20-4), with Cassi Hill also recording a triple. Rachael Fluke hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Sydney Van Noy went 2-for-4 with a double.
Dayton starting pitcher Sierra Ray went the distance for the victory, scattering seven hits while walking two and striking out five.
“We played well enough to win,” Pirates coach Rob Umbenhower said. “We’ve got to be able to get people on as we get deeper into the playoffs. At times we didn’t do that.”
Mackenzie Mitchell, Megan Strong and Brittney Abbott had two hits apiece for the Tigers (13-11).
Dayton softball hosts Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa in the 3A quarterfinals today. Game time is 1 p.m.

SALEM – The Bulldogs fell to the Cavaliers in Wednesday’s Class 3A state playoff first-round contest. Willamina finishes its season with a 14-12 overall record (7-3 West Valley League).
Western Mennonite 5, Yoncalla 2
YONCALLA – Emily Loyd struck out nine batters in a complete-game victory for the Lady Pioneers over the Eagles in Wednesday’s Class 2A/1A state playoff first-round contest.
Western Mennonite (17-6) plays at North Douglas/Elkton today at 5 p.m.
