Candidate filing deadline passes for May election

One final person has filed to run for county commissioner in the May primary this year, against incumbent Lindsay Berschauer and challenger David “Bubba” King.

David Wall, who turned in a last-minute filing on Tuesday, has run three times, in 2018, 2020 and 2022, but has never mounted a vigorous campaign.

Treasurer Kris Bledsoe is running unopposed for re-election.

Assessor Derrick Wharff is running unopposed for re-election.

Sheriff Sam Elliott, who was appointed by the county commissioners in December after former Sheriff Tim Svenson left to take another job, is running unopposed.

At the state level, Head Deputy District Attorney Kate Lynch is running unopposed for Yamhill County district attorney. Incumbent Brad Berry has not filed for re-election.

Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Chapman has filed for re-election, unopposed.

In the 23rd District for State Rep., Democrat Kriss Wright has filed to challenge Republican incumbent Anna Scharf.

In the 24th District for State Rep., Republican incumbent Lucetta Elmer is running unopposed.

State Sen. Brian Boquist, R-District 12, is not eligible for re-election, following a decision by the state Supreme Court. Dundee City Councilor Bruce Starr, a Boquist supporter and former state senator, has filed to run for his seat. He is being challenged by Democrat Scott Hooper, an attorney and rancher from Monmouth.

In the run for Congressional District 6, Democratic Rep. Andrea Salinas is being challenged by Democrat Cody Reynolds and Republicans Mike Erickson, David Burch of Salem and Dundee Mayor David Russ. Salinas defeated Reynolds and Erickson in 2022.

Let's hope "Bubba" is serious about running and is a reasonable candidate. Otherwise, we're in for four more years of chaos. Too bad there isn't somebody, anybody, who will step up and right the ship.

Bubba King is a serious and qualified contender. He’s a non-affiliated voter, and has been getting up to speed on county issues for at least the past couple years. He has several short videos available where you can get a better feel for his thoughts on local issues. It’s way past time to remove Berschauer. We’re voting for Bubba King. DG - Nice to know. I see Lindsey's minions have all their posts and boards planted for the ad nauseum glamor shots. I wish voters would do their homework. Millions of wasted dollars, employee relations at an all time low, and wanting to now hire more expensive administration rather than exercise reasonable leadership. Lindsey is just a rubber stamp for Starrett's ridiculous and expensive agenda.

A New Generation

I had the pleasure of attending a small scale meet & greet for David Bubba King. He is indeed both credible and reasonable, non-partisan, and understands clearly what is (and isn’t!) in the purview of a County Commissioner’s responsibilities. He is well spoken without any blowhard tendencies, unafraid of civic and civil engagement, and is going in eyes open to the campaign vs. the nasty creature he’ll be replacing. He noted he has no skeletons for LB to exploit in his closet. I found him to be a refreshing change of pace, someone who understands how to work harmoniously with others to get the job done. He’s aware of the disrespect & shameful treatment of employees. He’s an adult.
Maybe ‘glamor girl’ can go sell eyeliner for Mary-Kay.

David Wall apparently believes debating other candidates is somehow beneath him; it would entail speaking extemporaneously and not in his usual rote and dull paragraph form.
