NEWBERG — A 15-year-old female bicyclist was injured Friday afternoon when she was struck by a dump truck at the intersection of East Hancock and North Howard streets.

Her name and city of residence were not immediately released by the Newberg-Dundee Police Department.

Police gave this account:

The Kenworth dump truck, driven by Rodney Silvas, of Aloha, was westbound on Hancock when it struck the bicyclist who was attempting to ride southbound through the intersection in the crosswalk.

The preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist failed to yield the right-of-way to cross traffic.

Silvas stopped his truck immediately and is cooperating with the investigation. There are no indications he was distracted or impaired.

The bicyclist was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland with unknown injuries.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Sr. Officer Drew Boggs at 503-538-8321.
