Amity, Y-C take to Central track

With the championship portion of the track and field season on the horizon, the Amity and Yamhill-Carlton track and field teams put in some extra work.

The Warriors and the Tigers competed in the John Oliver Invitational, held Friday in Independence. Host Central won the boys’ team title with 136.66 points; Yamhill-Carlton finished 10th (24.16) and Amity finished 11th (21). In the girls’ team standings, Estacada won the meet with 120 points; Y-C (61.5 points) and Amity (34) finished sixth and ninth, respectively.

The Tigers’ girls’ 4x400-meter relay team of Kayla Archer, Perrin Xthona, Sarah King and Teagan Roberts won the event in 4 minutes, 14.28 seconds. Xthona added a runner-up finish in the girls’ 3,000 meters (11:47.79).

Y-C sophomore Derric Donehoo won the boys’ 3,000 (10:00.42) and finished second in the boys’ 1,500 (4:30.02).

Amity sophomore Lindsay McShane put the shot 38 feet, 5 inches for second place in the girls’ shot put. Warriors junior Riley Moore took third in the boys’ 100 meters (11.71), while junior Jordan Butler finished fourth in the boys’ 400 meters (53.35).
