Former Senate candidate Monica Wehby forms political group

Former Republican Senate candidate Monica Wehby is taking a step back into politics.

Wehby announced Wednesday that she's formed a political action committee called Monica PAC.

She says she's not running for office but wants to keep fighting for conservative causes she advocated in her campaign for U.S. Senate. Wehby, a pediatric neurosurgeon from Portland, lost handily in November to Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley.

Campaign finance records show Wehby's PAC has raised nearly $60,000 that can be used to influence state races. Some of the money came from a group created to recall former Gov. John Kitzhaber before his decision to resign.

Wehby says her PAC will spend money to help elect conservative candidates. She says it will also release drips of information about elected officials in Salem rather than waiting until campaign season.
