At Farm Fest, it's all about horse and history

The day will feature vintage equipment, animals, historic and agricultural displays for both adults and children, food and music. Admission is $5 for adults and free to children.

Farm Fest annually features the largest draft animal plowing competition on the West Coast. More than 20 teams of draft horses and mules will compete from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Oregon Draft Horse Breeders Association sponsors the competition along with the historical society.

The draft teams also will parade through the grounds at 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 3:30.

From 2 to 3 p.m., Wayne Beckwith and his four mules will demonstrate turning the soil with a three-bottom walking plow.

Other demonstrations and activities include horseshoeing at noon; old-time lessons in the 1880s Hutchcroft School at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.; sawmill demonstrations at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.; blacksmith demos at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.; antique tool demos at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars will raise the flag at 10 a.m. Museum tours, displays and other activities will continue all day.

Musical performances will include:

- Activities Building: The Langleys, 10 a.m. to noon; The Yamhillbillies, noon to 2 p.m.

- Restoration Shop: Old Time Country Music, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Kory Knutz on piano, 12:30 to 2 p.m.; Braids & Braves square dancing, 2 to 3 p.m.

Winning entries from the second annual "Agriculture in Art" photography contest will be on display all day as well. The Yamhill Valley Camera Club hosts the exhibit.
