Newberg resident dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

DEPOE BAY A Newberg resident was found dead Wednesday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his vehicle near the Cape Foulweather Lookout Observatory and Gift Shop in Lincoln County. He was identified by the Oregon State Police as Michael A. Lyman, 24.

About 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Oregon State Police and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office were asked by Newberg-Dundee police to be on the lookout for a suicidal man who may have traveled to the Cape Foulweather area. The location is three miles south of Depoe Bay.

About 45 minutes later, a sheriff's office deputy located the vehicle in the observatory/gift shop parking lot. Lyman's body was discovered in the vehicle.

OSP and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner conducted the death investigation. Depoe Bay Fire District and Oregon State Parks & Recreation Department personnel also responded.
