Kirby Neumann-Rea/News-Register##“We are now officially naming our first beer release Gold Dot,” said Kevin Davey, right, as he and Lisa Allen of Heater Allen Brewery introduce their new brand at The Bitter Monk taproom on May 10. Davey described it as “not as bitter, not as alcoholic, or malty as the pils,” Heater Allen’s flagship beer. “Gold Dot as a brand is both of us, a combination of both of us. I’m really excited. I think everyone in McMinnville is pretty proud of Heater Allen for its amazing beer,” said Davey, formerly of Wayfinder in Portland. Gold Dot is an unfiltered version, cold-finished and lagered for over eight weeks, Davey said. “We want to try different things and see where this beer ends up. We want to make the perfect beer, Helles is a lager that is very complicated, it’s a hard beer to make,” The brewers used a specific barley from Germany, Steffi, named for tennis great Steffi Graf. “It is a low alcohol, 4.9 percent beer, a very dry beer, but it has so much malt flavor for being such a small beer. Drinkability is the focus of Helles.”
