Ty Walker

Ty supervises the local reporting staff, makes story selection and play decisions, edits stories and writes headlines, designs and lays out news pages, and takes story tips from the public. He earned a bachelor's degree in English at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., in 1989. After graduation, he spent three years with Southern California Community Newspapers, the last two as editor of the South Gate Press. He also freelanced for publications in that area, including the Long Beach News. He moved to Portland in 1993, becoming managing editor of the St. Johns Review. He spent six years in that post, then a year as associate editor of The Daily Triplicate in Crescent City, Calif., before being named news editor at the News-Register in April 2000.
