This whole lawsuit falls right on the backs of the school district and school board. For the last ten years athletics have taken a second position to every activity in the entire school district. I know the facility’s have been improved at taxpayers expense but you can’t just paint the front of the barn. Coaches have come here and left here at alarming rates in the last ten years. There are two reasons for that. Number one is no backing from the board or district, number two is the inadequate pay for the coaches and the fundraising they have to include in their duty’s. Teachers don’t have to fund raise class rooms but coaches have to fund raise their class room. Something has to change and soon or more litigation will follow. As far as the two people named in the suit they are both outstanding young educators and have nothing but good intentions for student athletes. They have only kids in mind with their decisions and should not have been named in this frivolous lawsuit.

Wasn't the "plaintiff"(Rollins) passed over for the position...kind a important part of the story if true...

How is it that Wasmund was hired in the first place? Assuming the student involved was old enough to consent (college age) it still shows a glaring lack of judgement on his part and should have DQ'd him from consideration for a HS position.

It doesn't look good when in the MHS 2020 brochure the school sent out, the football team is prominently featured despite its lack of success even in reaching playoffs under McIrvin, but the girls basketball, soccer and volleyball were barely mentioned.
From what I gather the community feeling is that the football program comes first in McIrvin's actions and girls sports are an after thought.

sw, thanks for reading the booklet "Celebrating McMinnville High School's Class of 2020." When I page through it, I see photos of girls' swimming, volleyball and basketball, a girl committing to play sports in college, and lots of other girls as well as boys. I chose the picture of the football team because I thought it represented resilience and grit -- I played in the band, rather than on sports teams in high school, but I'm pretty sure reaching the playoffs is far from being the only marker of success and growth in athletics.

This has always been a problem in athletics here. Even back when I was in High School. Academics and athletics should have an equal focus. It does not. Yes you should be a student first but I feel athletics are just as important. This school has always put football first. The biggest problem is they only hire teachers to be coaches. While some are good, some are only doing it for the money and do not have the knowledge or passion of the sport. With the amount of kids in our programs, we should have more consistently successful programs.

I find it comical in the way Maryalice Russell tries to divert attention away from the Title IX OCR complaint between the disparities between the boy’s baseball facilities and the girls’ softball facilities that I filed in relating it to the new gym and locker rooms and that a complaint was filed during the construction process at Mac High. Funny, I cannot find this complaint in OCR’s archives. Hmm. While federal laws require school districts to comply with Title IX and ADA in new construction, it also requires the same in existing facilities, but this district has skirted Title IX and ADA laws in existing facilities, that’s why they are being investigated on several violations in both. Now let’s say there really was a complaint filed, I challenge Maryalice to provide proof, because after all, it is public record. Maybe I’ll have to do another records request on the district to see for myself. The first time I presented Maryalice with a records request, she refused me…twice and I had to direct the refusal to Yamhill County District Attorney Brad Berry, who ordered the district to turn over the records or supply him with reason as to why they were not complying with my request. I had the requested records within 24 hours after the district received his email. This is how this district operates, shady dealings out of the public view. Just the old diversion tactic by Maryalice to help save face and paint the picture of equal opportunity for all, when in fact this district is nothing about equality between the boys and girls athletic programs, hence the reason they are under investigation for Title IX violations. Nice try Maryalice. I, for one, am not fooled by your bush league tactics.

Rustyoar...Mr Rollins did not apply for the position, so he could not have been passed over. Just setting the records straight.
