Just add an off ramp heading North so those wanting to use the bypass don't have to sit in backed up traffic. That entrance was the most asinine design they could have come up with.

Sounds like a no brainier.

fmtko, Hwy 18 was put in back in the '50's, with a lot less traffic then what we see today.
What is needed now, is a fly over to get traffic over the railroad tracks. It will keep the traffic flowing better then a stupid roundabout. Only an idiot would put in a roundabout. The scale would be better off being moved north between Archery Summit Rd. and Trunk Rd. and make a frontage road for all the county roads before getting onto the hwy.

Please, not a stupid traffic circle on a main highway. Log trucks will never make it through.

I agree with fmtko, and I also wonder why some of these solutions that seem so simple cannot be implemented. How about 4 lanes all the way through? You have four lane sections that were built over 50 years ago. From Rex Hill all the way through, yes including Dundee, should have all been made four lanes a long time ago. All these issues are a capacity problem. Our answer, build a TWO LANE bypass. Too many politicians, too much studying, too many special interests. We need infrastructure and we need it now. A roundabout is not expanding capacity. Nor is a "fishhook". Last thing, every time a stop light is put in it reduces capacity.

ODOT spends most of it's budget around the Portland area.

The biggest single allocation of funds from HB 2017–the legislature’s new transportation bill–is a down payment on a multi-hundred million dollar project to widen the Interstate 5 freeway near the Rose Quarter. Two other projects could lead to the widening of Highway 217 in the region’s western suburbs and I-205 to the South, at a total cost estimated at nearly a billion dollars. The rest of the state ends up with crumbs, such as the ineffective 99W bypass in our county.

fir tree is correct -- too many 'influences' negatively affecting what should be done.

99W all the way from Portland to Eugene should be made into freeway. Also make 47 from Mac to Forest Grove more freeway like and straightened out and widened and connect across the Columbia to Longview. We need a second i5 in the valley and run it through our county.
