Rumpelstilzchen

This illustrates an important point, which both the “throw the bums out!” crowd and the opposite “have compassion!” do-gooders usually ignore: There needs to be a way to separate actual needy community members, like the Crowders, from out-of-town homeless attracted by misapplied local charity and no enforcement of already lax rules. Hopefully, the new rules will mark the beginning of a change for the latter, and then we can address the real issue of homelessness in the community.

It’s “Whack-a-mole” until there is a place designated.....

Sovereign citizens don't live by the same rules.

Valerie Miller is one of these individuals.

Here is the definition from the FBI website:

"Sovereign citizens are anti-government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or “sovereign” from the United States. As a result, they believe they don’t have to answer to any government authority, including courts, taxing entities, motor vehicle departments, or law enforcement.

This causes all kinds of problems—and crimes. For example, many sovereign citizens don’t pay their taxes. They hold illegal courts that issue warrants for judges and police officers. They clog up the court system with frivolous lawsuits and liens against public officials to harass them. And they use fake money orders, personal checks, and the like at government agencies, banks, and businesses."

Willamette country RV park is $500 per month, Old Stone Village is $525 per month, Lafayette RV park is $440-500 per month. I am trying to understand why those with RV's are not using the resources available to them.

FitChic

Father_of_three, all of the available RV parks have regulations on the age/condition of the RVs that are allowed to rent space. All of the RVs currently on the streets being used by the homeless population are older than that, and many do not run or are not in movable condition. Beyond that, many of the homeless will not live by the rules set forth in those parks. I acknowledge that some do have legitimate needs but the majority seem to just not want to live by anyone's expectations, even when it is in their best interest to do so.

Mike

Excellent article. Puts a human face and reality to the situation so many want to generalize into one lawless group. Identifying the truly needy, from the 'tweakers' who couldn't get hired as a toilet cleaner, let alone pay rent, will be the challenge. Some of the camper/tweakers will move their tents into the Cosine Creek green way. They'll be out of sight and even more of a fire danger for the rest of us.

madmacs

So how is arresting people and taking away what little they have to shelter them going to accomplish anything? Without some sort of alternative this is going to cause more problems.
This is a local symptom of a much larger problem, high rents, low wages etc. Many, many people in our community are an unfortunate turn of events away from this situation.

Joel

This getting weird.

Stella

YCAP can help with rent - walk over. Section 8 - check it out. Living on the streets isn't an option in Mac - it's against the law.

Joel

Rent too high in McMinnville? No brainer....move somewhere where it cheaper. Move to Willamina...hell, move out to Burns if you have to but don't sit in your RV and whine about rent being too high. That's a cop out.
Wages too low? Get your butt enrolled at chemwketa and get a better paying job. I don't care how old you are it's no excuse. Get more education and get a better job.
Or sit in your rv all day making excuses and hope the bleeding heart libs of mcminnville will continue to enable you.

Joel

Sorry for all the typos. Posting from my phone with its aggresive spell checker that has a mind of its own!

“That remark astounded her, Pat Crowder said. “Have they seen the price of a house?” she said.”

They’re a lot cheaper in the Midwest. How about moving there and not trying to live for free in some of the most expensive real estate in the nation?

TTT -

You’re missing the bigger picture. “Sovereign” citizens provide endless comedic relief. These, er, uneducated folks trying to skirt the rules due to their self imposed, meaningless citizen “status” are absolutely hilarious. There are literally thousands of YouTube videos on these clowns. Of course, this partially explains her current housing choice.

gregtompkins

Quit giving away the house and other free stuff to the illegals and take care of American citizens , socialist McMinnvillers

Illegal immigrants are not a factor in homeless group.....

Rotwang

Unless I haven't been paying attention, there hasn't been a complete tent-to-RV count of where these people come from. This would help to separate the unfortunate locals from transients. Mike, please don't pass around info about Cozine Creek. The county still needs to clear out existing old tents from the area.

OregonBorn

@tagup

Wrong.

“Rector said his 2013 estimate pegged the cost of undocumented immigrants — the cost of services received minus their tax contributions — was about $54 billion a year.”

That $54,000,000,000 could provide a huge safety net for the folks who ACTUALLY need temporary help.

gregtompkins

Illegal immigrants absolutely are a big part to the equation !! Anyone been to the state to the south of us recently ? The situation with the vagrants is FAR worse than here , even in those hifalutin do gooder mega liberal and wealthy coastal cities ... they have vagrancy galore and they have million dollar homes for the wealthy progressives and 10 miles inland all the illegal “slaves” doing their dirty work. These same “progressives” run McMinnville.

Mike

Rotwang. There are folks camping down there now. There will be more. I've reported it to the police. But the streets will be nice and presentable.

OregonBorn —I assume you are quoting Robert Rector of the Heritage foundation....
Hmmm......see any bias there?
Anyway...I was referring to the local issue....

Lulu

Speaking of YCAP, where is the count information from the start of the year?
Where
Is
It?
Are they using an abacus?

Aorta1775

Please show me the data for the illegal immigrants. As I cannot find any. Illegal immigrants are not a factor. What are you basing this opinion on? Are there facts to back this up or is it your own prejudice? Please explain as this just sounds ignorant.

gregtompkins

There is a strong correlation between areas that are illegal lovers and homelessness. Even Cher said it’s true and she’s a leftist so it MUST be true ! https://www.google.com/amp/s/beta.washingtonpost.com/politics/i-got-you-babe-trump-says-he-agrees-with-chers-concerns-about-migrants/2019/04/15/ee396574-5f95-11e9-9ff2-abc984dc9eec_story.html%3foutputType=amp

Using Cher as a source doesn’t convince me.....

gregtompkins

I’ve actually been in this sanctuary city lately. These areas under progressive governance and bend over backwards for the illegals but do absolutely nothing about the homeless issues.

@tagup

I see. So you will only believe liberal math. How’s the liberal math working in San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc?

And yes it’s a local issue. But how many federal dollars is McMinnville spending on local issues?

And you, squawking about bias is hysterically ironic.

Cheers.

tagup

if you could magically remove all the undocumented workers....what do you think the cost to the economy would be? Mr Rector’s calculation seems to overlook that....Economic growth doesn’t happen without workers....that’s not “liberal math”.....
