NDPD receives donation to K-9 fund

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department received a $19,000 donation from Gino and Ona Harrison to fund the purchase and training of a new police K-9.

The donation follows the retirement of K-9 Tango in June.

Tango, a Czech Shepherd, joined the department in 2019 after being purchased from Adlerhorst International in Southern California. He served the Newberg-Dundee community.

He started his career working alongside Sgt. Brian Hagen for one year before being partnered with Officer Jeremy Pilon in 2020.

The Harrisons’ gift will cover the full cost of acquiring a K-9 as well as the specialized training to certify the dog for police service. The department expects to purchase a new K-9 in the coming months.

“We are grateful to Gino and Ona Harrison for their generosity and their commitment to public safety in our community,” said Chief Jeff Kosmicki of the Newberg-Dundee Police Department. “This donation makes it possible for us to continue providing K-9 services to the citizens we serve.”
