Well....another multi-million lawsuit against the county that has it's roots with Chuck Vesper. It also spans a number of years which tells me that the commissioners and administrator are not performing their oversight duties. Another spike in insurance rates and more conditions from the carrier means that the taxpayers will pay more for all of this. When will people start doing their jobs?

Berman asks for $1 million each from defendants Sheriff Tim Svenson, Community Justice Director Jessica Beach and Detention Center manager Scott Paasch,

Sounds like these CLOWNS need to be removed and spend sometime in JAIL for their actions.
>
DON'T JUST GIVE THEM A SLAP ON THE BACK OF THE HAND AND SAY DON'T DO IT AGAIN. MAKE THEM REALLY PAY. YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU DO THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Sponge

This is a bunch of baloney. The miscreants don't much care for the strictness of the rules behind bars, so we get opportunists looking to milk the county. If mistakes were made, correct them. But don't turn it into a circus with accusations and million dollar payouts. Let cooler heads prevail.

fir tree - "Well....another multi-million lawsuit against the county that has it's roots with Chuck Vesper."

Vesper passed away from brain cancer a year ago. Please explain how this current lawsuit "has it's (sic) roots with" him. He was deputy county administrator, and no direct ties to the juvenile department (i.e. a part of the in-house chain of command).

T.W.S.

Mac Native 66 - you do realize, as Svenson said in the article, he as Sheriff, an elected position, has no oversight on any level where there juvenile detention facility is concerned. He should be excluded from this lawsuit and was an error on the part of the attorney to include him.

"CLOWNS" eh? Do share you expertise in law enforcement and community corrections, specifically juvenile detention.

And YELLING online is nonconforming to netiquette. Calm down already, as you're beginning to repeat yourself from one forum to the next.

T.W.S.

Sponge - well said, and I agree 100%

Megmaa

I suggest if you live in Yamhill County that you visit your Juvenile Detention Center. Adults and children do not have the same rights. Then give an "informed" opinion based on what you personally see yourself. How interesting one can form opinions on such little information.

Sponge

TWS: Chuck Vesper was originally hired as the detention center director; a post he held for many years, before becoming deputy administrator for the county.

The structure is Juvi Detention(Paasch) reports to Community Justice(Beach/Smietana) who reports to County Administrator(Tschabold) who reports to the Commissioners - that's your responsibility line all per the org chart. Lawsuits typically reach out to whomever they think they might tag and then those parties are dismissed from the suit down the road. The suit against Correct Care by the County is County Admin trying to deflect and cover themselves. The Sheriff has nothing to do with this - it's all County Admin once again.

Sponge- "TWS: Chuck Vesper was originally hired as the detention center director; a post he held for many years, before becoming deputy administrator for the county."

Okay, I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification.

T.W.S.

Megmaa - "Adults and children do not have the same rights."

They have the same rights, they are just treated differently due to their age. There is more direct rehabilitation and discipline for juveniles to more or less "scare" them straight. That's the difference.

Lulu

Maybe you could "scare them" straighter by incarcerating them in the Yamhill County Jail, where the death penalty is still enforced on occasion.

Lulu - "Maybe you could "scare them" straighter by incarcerating them in the Yamhill County Jail, where the death penalty is still enforced on occasion."

What is truly pathetic about your asinine commentary is that you just don't realize what a fool you're making yourself out to be with such inflammatory allegations that you could never support in a million years.

Lulu

Are you denying two people have died while incarcerated in the Yamhill County Jail? I thought you dealt in facts.

T.W.S.

Lulu - “Are you denying two people have died while incarcerated in the Yamhill County Jail? I thought you dealt in facts.”

Slapping face palm!!!!!! I was refuting your asinine comment about the jail performing the death penalty. You cannot be that obtuse? Given your track record thus far, yeah, you can be and definitely are just that dense.

Lulu

Do you have any friends, aside from Ms. Miller?

T.W.S.

Lulu - "Do you have any friends, aside from Ms. Miller?"

Ah, the textbook classic ad hominem argument; typical of those who cannot hold their own in a debate/discussion.

Lulu

Ad hominem is your modus operandi. Name calling represents the largest tool in your arsenal.
I wish you an extraordinarily long life. Like Tithonus.

T.W.S.

Lulu - “Ad hominem is your modus operandi. Name calling represents the largest tool in your arsenal.”

Deflection and transference of your shortcomings is an ad hominem fallacy argument. Typical slander from one losing the debate/discussion.

Lulu

Don't you mean "libel" since it refers to a written, not spoken, defamation?
Also, "fallacy" is different from "argument."
Maybe you should monitor your blood pressure, because based on a show of hands, I won the debate/discussion.

T.W.S.

Lulu - "Don't you mean "libel" since it refers to a written, not spoken, defamation?"

Nope. I meant slander, as referenced by famous coined phrase: the phrase “When the debate is lost, slander becomes the tool of the loser.”

Lulu - "Also, "fallacy" is different from "argument.""

Your ignorance of logical fallacies where debate/arguments are concerned is showing. Ad hominem fallacy is also referenced as an ad hominem argument, cuts both ways; I merely combined the two to bait you, and you took it hook, line, and sinker. So predictable.

Lulu -"Maybe you should monitor your blood pressure, because based on a show of hands, I won the debate/discussion."

ROTFLMAO! Wishful thinking fallacy right there, not to mention delusions of grandeur.

Lulu

You're not invited to the party to celebrate my victory. Don't try to wheedle or complain. Plus, we're featuring an open bar along with excellent, non-crummy snacks. Even some M&Ms--in case someone wants to "bait" that special gal. Above all, remember in this forum we are not debating with the spoken word; we're writing. Perhaps you might care to consult your dictionary--look for the green book.

We're received a few complaints recently. That usually means it may be a good time for people to review the newspaper policy on Reader Comments.

Jeb Bladine - "We're received a few complaints recently. That usually means it may be a good time for people to review the newspaper policy on Reader Comments."

Complaints? That people don't know how to debate/discuss issues with facts over fiction? Credible sourced information over fake news? Without unwarranted juvenile personal attacks addressing the messenger and not addressing the message like an adult?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see who the complaints are directed at or about, since a few commenters herein seem to find and follow me around to personally attack, attack and attack rather than address the content of my comment(s).

Jeb Bladine

T.W.S.,
Perhaps it does take a rocket scientist! Complaints have not focused on a single individual. We can consider providing a private file where a small group of subscribers can carry out continuous debates on any subject with fewer restraints from the general policies.

~ I never insinuated that they were; I inferred it to be more than one since it is quite clear that there have been more than one.
