Did something similar when I was in college.
It was useful, and helped me in my career.

Well, the result was disappointing wasn't it? Instead of a game, participants would have learned how to approach a problem and being taught problem resolution strategies. A knowledgeable coordinator would have instead listed the options and then solicited from the students, pros and cons for each option adding information or options they may not have thought of. Otherwise you're just watching them go over a cliff with no climbing gear.
