Portland man dies in one-vehicle crash on Ribbon Ridge
Sep 29, 2013
YAMHILL — A Portland man died Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash east of Yamhill in the 16000 block of Ribbon Ridge Road.
The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office identified him as Duane Eric Graf, 41. He was the lone passenger in the vehicle.
Deputies gave this account of the 5:35 p.m. incident:
Steven Todd Kuenzi, 53, of Portland, was driving a 1994 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Ribbon Ridge when he lost control and the vehicle rolled onto its side. Heavy rain and wind was reported at the time, but it's unknown if those factors contributed to the crash. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor.
"It's a gravel road," Sheriff Jack Crabtree said. "He got off on the side of the road, dropped into a ditch and the vehicle rolled. It was really a low-speed crash."
Newberg Fire Department medical personnel responded first to the crash. It was reported Graf was unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Kuenzi was not injured.
Graf and Kuenzi, who are friends, had been picking apples in the area during the day and were returning home at the time of the crash, according to Crabtree.
