The Oxford House for Men, a McMinnville residence that houses individuals who are in recovery or are seeking help for their drug and/or alcohol addiction, was severely damaged by a fire early this morning.

Seventeen adults and three children were displaced.

The Oxford House leases the residence from Yamhill County, according to Community Corrections Director Ted Smietana. He said it's uncertain how long it will take for repairs to be made so individuals can return.

The Red Cross is providing assistance with food, clothing, lodging, comfort kits and information about disaster health services and mental health suupport for those who were displaced. A shelter has been set up for them at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds.

McMinnville firefighters responded about 1 a.m. to the residence at 8825 S.E. Morgan Lane, according to Assistant Chief Steve Rex.

Flames extended into the attic of the structure, Rex said. Trusses were burned. There was smoke damage throughout the residence. However, the structure is not considered a total loss. A cause has not been determined.

Four pieces of equipment and about 20 firefighters responded to the scene.
