(PHOTO CAPTION)  Dayton Grade School students crowd around George Fox Coeds Lei Tian, Karina Stephenson, Amy Rose and Krissy Stocking, who are handing out Otter Pops during noon recess on Wednesday. DGS staff members handed out the cooling treats on other extremely hot days this week.

In addition, P.E. teacher Larry Bales rigged up a playgrounds drinking fountain -- four spigots, no waiting --to help students beat the heat. The GF students were spending the day at DGS and helping in other places around the county as part of their annual Serve Day.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Wednesday morning for the Willamette Valley, where temperatures are expected to reach the lower and mid 90s, approaching record high temperatures, in several locations. Forecasters expect temperatures in the 80s the rest of the week, even with morning marine clouds pushing through the coastal gaps Thursday and Friday.
