GRAND RONDE -- One man died and another was critically injured in a crash on Highway 18 at Grand Ronde Road about 6:30 p.m. Friday. The highway was closed for about four hours.

Oregon State Police said Alexander Barnes, 19, of Aumsville, the driver of a car that was attempting a U-turn on the highway, was killed in the crash. One of his passengers, Matthew Frankenhauser, 22, was taken to Salem Hospital with critical injuries.

Dannyelle Mager, 32, of Amity, the driver of the pickup, was not hurt. A passenger received minor injuries.

Troopers said Barnes' 2000 Ford Focus carrying four people was westbound on the highway. It was struck by the truck while attempting the U--turn.

OSP was assisted by personnel from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Grand Ronde Police Department, West Valley Fire District and Oregon Department of Transportation.
