Downtown McMinnville is in the semi-final round for Parade magazine's "America's Best Main Street" competition. It won in online voting over Placerville, California, and Georgetown, Texas, to make it into the top four.
To vote, visit the website at www.parade.com/mainstreet. Voting in this round will continue until 8:59 p.m. tonight, Pacific time.
In this round, McMinnville is battling Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
The website describes McMinnville, population 32,545, as follows: "Many say this picturesque downtown looks like a movie set. Locals call the main drag ”the living room of McMinnville,” while the tree-lined street has comfort, charm, eclectic boutiques, award-winning restaurants, wine tasting stores, upstairs apartments, artwork, and a successful farmers’ market. Annual festivals such as the Turkey Rama and Alien Daze offer family fun."
Siloam Springs, population 15,000, is described as: "Scenic Sager Creek, with its rock wall–lined banks, flows through the downtown, which is shaded by stately trees and decorated with dogwoods. Fountains, foot bridges, greens space, gazebos, and even duck crossings are part of this town’s charm."
The winner will be matched in the finals against the winner between Ellicott, City, Maryland, population 65,834, and Collierville, Tennessee, population 46,462.
Voting for the finals will end July 2 at 8:59 p.m.
The winner will be featured in an article in Parade later this summer.
