Firefighters battle house fire on Goucher Street

Blaze extinguished before spreading far into house

The McMinnville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 979 Goucher St. Tuesday morning that started on the rear porch of the single family home.

When emergency units arrived, the fire had extended through the roof soffit and into the attic and had started to spread through the crawl space.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the gable ends of the roof and through the area where it had burned into the attic, according to a department press release. The fire was contained to the exterioir of the building and the space immediately above where it began.

Six McMinnville fire vehicles with 18 firefighters responded.

The owner was home when the fire started and attempted to put it our with a garden hose. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
