CARLTON — A two-alarm fire Sunday night caused between $300,000 and $400,000 damage to one of two Scott Paul Wines structures located at 128 S. Pine St.
The Carlton Fire District received a fire alarm activation call from the business about 10:30 p.m., district spokesperson Darci Ancalade said. The first responding crew found heavy fire in the winery's fermentation room.
A second alarm was sounded which brought additional equipment and personnel from Dayton, McMinnville and Yamhill, according to Fire Chief Terry Lucich.
"It's a big building, right downtown," he said, regarding the need for a larger response. "We needed a ladder truck to get on the roof and some other specialized equipment."
About 30 firefighters were on scene, and one sustained a minor injury, according to Ancalade
The Yamhill County Fire Investigation Team has taken over the job of determining a cause. Arson has been ruled out. There was no sprinkler system in the building.
