A Dayton man was transported to a Portland hospital Sunday afternoon after his pickup crossed a grassy verge and collided with another vehicle.

Oregon State Police said Arland D. McDougall, 83, of Dayton drove across grass onto 99W at its intersection with Highway 18 north of Lafayette. His 1976 Ford pickup hit the passenger side of a Dodge pickup.

McDougall was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with injuries that may be serious, troopers said.

State police said the other driver, Johnny Johnson Jr., 43, of Willamina was southbound on 99W when his truck was hit. Neither he nor his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was hurt.

The investigation is continuing.
