Evergreen flies in another 747 jet
The highway is scheduled for closure from 5 to 6 a.m. June 9, according to state Department of Transportation spokesman Rick Little. However, he said the operation probably won’t actually take that long.
The plane was flown in Saturday.
It was the second time in recent years that Evergreen had flown one of its 747s into tiny McMinnville Municipal Airport. Several years ago, it flew in the plane destined to become the centerpiece for the water park feature of its museum complex.
Larry Wood, executive director of the museum, said the massive jet is at least tentatively scheduled to go on display in front of the museum, replacing a Lockheed P-2 Neptune. In that event, he said, the P-2, originally known as a P2V, would be moved closer to the museum entrance.
However, he said those plans were still subject to change. He said the final decision would be up to the museum’s board of directors.
