Yamhill-Carlton softball goes 2-for-California

California has treated the Yamhill-Carlton softball team well this spring break.

The Tigers handily won their first two games of the season on the road against Healdsburg (Calif.) and San Rafael (Calif.), scoring a combined 30 runs in 10 innings of softball.

On Monday, Y-C scored in all five innings to defeat Healdsburg, 20-0, in an abbreviated contest. Emily Drevdahl went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and four RBI. Ember Armstrong (3-for-5) and Taylor Stepp (3-for-3) also excelled at the plate for the Tigers, and Delaney Ogden and Madisyn Babcock each had two hits for Yamhill-Carlton.

On Tuesday, Tigers senior Molly Smith went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBI while allowing one hit in four innings pitched as Yamhill-Carlton defeated the Bulldogs, 10-0, in five innings. Stepp also homered en route to a 2-for-4 outing, and Ogden went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Y-C racked up 12 hits against San Rafael.

The Tigers played at Redwood of Larkspur, Calif., today at 4:30 p.m. to complete their California road trip. Y-C hosts Molalla on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in Class 4A nonleague play.

Dayton 23, Junction City 2 (5)

MOLALLA – The Class 3A Pirates handily defeated the Class 4A Tigers on the first day of the North Marion Spring Break Tournament in Molalla on Tuesday.

Dayton had tournament games against Class 4A Central and Class 4A North Marion canceled due to inclement weather Wednesday.

The Pirates (4-0) play at Central at noon today and host Santiam Christian Monday at 4:30 p.m.


Amity 23, Toledo 0 (5)

TOLEDO – The Class 3A Warriors dispatched the Class 2A Boomers in five innings in Monday’s nonleague contest.

Amity (2-2) hosted Blanchet Catholic on Thursday. The Warriors play at Scio on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

BEND – The Class 3A Bulldogs dropped a pair of games in the Bend Tournament to the Class 4A Bruins and the Class 5A Trojans.

Willamina (4-4) plays at Colton Tuesday night at 5 p.m. in its first Class 3A West Valley League contest.

BEND – The Class 3A Bulldogs earned a pair of victories Monday against the Class 4A Outlaws and the Class 2A Lady Antlers in the Bend Tournament.

LINCOLN – The Class 3A Spartans and the Class 2A Lady Pioneers split a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

Sheridan (2-4) plays at Dayton Tuesday at 5 p.m. in its Class 3A West Valley League opener.
