YAMHILL — Voters have convincingly approved a $14.2 million bond measure in the Yamhill-Carlton School District.

The bond will fund major repairs and upgrades to Yamhill-Carlton schools. With a small percentage of ballots to be officially counted, the bond is up 1,703 yes to 1,087 no, or 61 percent to 39 percent.

The bond measure will fund a new, concrete-dome gym at Y-C High, in addition to repairing roofs, replacing carpets and making other repairs and safety improvements.

The bond will cost an estimated $1.36 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which is typically lower than real market value. The owner of a house assessed at $150,000 for tax purposes, but typically worth significantly more, would pay $204 per year in property taxes.

Since the measure passed, Y-C also qualifies for a $4 million state grant, giving it $18.2 million to spend on school improvements overall.
