Y-C planning grad night fundraiser
CARLTON — Parents of Yamhill-Carlton High School seniors are planning a dinner and auction fundraiser to help finance an alcohol- and drug-free Grad Night for the Class of 2014.
The family-oriented event will run 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Carlton Legion Hall, across from city hall. It will feature a silent auction, bingo play, a hot dog bar, a potato bar and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Admission is free. There is a charge for bingo play and food service.
Organizer Scott Chitwood said all proceeds will go toward Y-C’s 31st annual Grad Night, an all-nighter being organized by senior parents. The event celebrates students’ accomplishments and assures parents the new graduates are having a good time in a safe environment.
Chitwood, father of both a senior and a freshman at Y-C High, recalled his own Grad Night party in 1989.
He and his classmates enjoyed a casino night and music event at a venue in McMinnville. The event was one last bonding activity for the classmates, and it left lasting memories, he said.
He and other parents have been collecting auction items from area businesses and individuals.
“It’s surprising how generous the little, local businesses are,” he said. “Everyone is more than willing to help.”
Auction items run the gamut from gift baskets, wine and food to veterinary services, gasoline gift cards and passes to the Carlton pool. Artists also have donated pieces.
Chitwood said the Grad Night committee is still seeking donations. To donate, call 503-852-6537 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
