Y-C girls finish 4th at Cowapa championships

YAMHILL – The Yamhill-Carlton girls track and field team finished fourth and the boys track and field team finished sixth at the Class 4A Cowapa League Championships, held Thursday and Friday at Yamhill-Carlton High School.

Four individuals and two relay teams will represent the Tigers at the OSAA Class 4A State Track and Field Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Y-C enjoyed a 1-2 finish in the girls’ pole vault as Mariah Schock cleared 8 feet even to win the event. Senior Erin Cline was second with a height of 7 feet, 6 inches.

Senior Suzanne Van De Grift won the girls’ 400 meters, clocking 1 minute, 0.77 seconds. Senior Sarah King will represent the Tigers in the girls’ 200 meters after finishing second in 26.87.

The team of Kayla Archer, Perrin Xthona, Van De Grift and King won the girls’ 4x400-meter relay in 4:10.32. Archer, Teagan Roberts, Van De Grift and King finished second in the girls’ 4x100-meter relay (51.46).

Scappoose scored 167 points to win the boys’ team title, while Banks won the girls’ team title with 151.33 points.
