Dayton Board to meet tonight

DAYTON — School board members will adopt the 2013-14 calendar and award a transportation contract when they meet at 7:15 p.m. tonight, April 9, at the district office, 780 Ferry St. A preview on alternative education will precede the regular meeting at 7.

The business agenda also includes discussion of the 2013-14 budget, district finances and personnel.

An executive session to evaluate classified staff and discuss negotiations will follow the business meeting. For more information, call the district office at 503-864-2215.


Special education contract on agenda

AMITY — School board members will consider a special education transportation contract when they meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the district office, 807 Trade St.

Also on the agenda are a request for high school oceanography students to make an overnight trip and a proposal on the lease of quarters at 502 S. Trade St.

An executive session on labor negotiations is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with a question-and-answer session to follow. For more information, call the district at 503-835-2171.


Ballston now taking applications

AMITY — The Ballston Community School, a small charter school affiliated with the Amity School District, is now accepting applications for 2013-14.

The tuition-free school will hold a lottery to fill a limited number of openings in grades 1-12.

The school, five miles south of Amity at 7575 Bethel Road, offers an alternative environment with small classes and individualized instructional strategies. Parents are asked to be partners in implementation of personalized education plans.
