Weidner to seek fourth term
State Rep. Jim Weidner, a Yamhill Republican representing Yamhill County’s District 24, made it official Tuesday that he plans to seek another term in Salem.
Weidner said last fall that he had considered giving up his House seat to pursue a seat on the county board of commissioners, but decided against it. He indicated then that he was inclined to instead pursue another two-year House term.
In making the official announcement, he noted at least 15 of his colleagues have decided to relinquish their seats, including nine of his fellow Republicans. He said he hated to add to the exodus.
“Because I truly valued the advice of those colleagues who had served before my arrival. and I deeply appreciated the camaraderie offered by those senior members, I have decided to run for re-election to help stabilize this transition,” Weidner said. “Likewise, I will work closely with the incoming freshman to alleviate some of the strain during this transition.”
He said, “I’m excited to work with my newly elected colleagues so together we can pursue prudent government spending and policies that establish economic incentives for growth that will expand employment opportunities and create a fertile business climate.”
