Verdict: Hill found guilty of all charges related to Newberg High threat

Jacob Hill was found guilty Friday afternoon of all charges in connection with a plot to kill members of the Newberg High School staff and student body.

Judge John Collins presided over the four-day bench trial in Yamhill County Circuit Court.

The 17-year-old Hill was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree assault and one count of attempted unlawful use of a weapon. One of the named victims related to the attempted assault charge was School Resource Officer Shawn Moreland.

Hill will be sentenced at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Videtich prosecuted the case. McMinnville attorney Paula Lawrence represented Hill.

He was taken into custody in early March, after authorities discovered detailed plans in his journal to kill at least 100 people at the school. He has been lodged in the county’s Juvenile Detention Facility ever since, and will remain there until sentencing.

See Tuesday's print edition for additional details.
