Vacation rental up for hearing

A public hearing on a proposed vacation home rental is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20, before the McMinnville Planning Commission.

It's the only item on a light pre-Christmas agenda. The staff is recommending approval.

The commission is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. at McMinnville Civic Hall, 200 N.E. Second St.

Mason and Holly Wagner are seeking a conditional use permit to operate a vacation home rental out of a two-bedroom home at 914 S.E. First Street, near downtown. They purchased the house after it had sat vacant for two years.

The planning said in a memo to the commission that the proposed use is an appropriate one, and will likely enhance the neighborhood. Moreover, they wrote, the couple lives in the same neighborhood, so will be readily available to deal with any problems.

They noted the city now has five vacation home rentals, four operating under conditional use permits and one established before the city implemented its permit system. And they said it had yet to field a complaint about any of them.

No comments in opposition have been lodged with the planning department so far.
