Revenge is a dish best served cold.
After Willamina held Class 3A West Valley League rival Sheridan to 11 yards in the first quarter and came up with two turnovers in the second, the Spartans dominated the third and fourth quarters in a 22-6 victory over the Bulldogs Thursday night at Glen Larkin Field in Willamina.
Sheridan (2-4 overall, 2-2 West Valley) allowed Willamina (1-5, 0-3 West Valley) 64 yards of offense in the second half while scoring all 22 points in the final 24 minutes. Spartans senior running back Justin Acuff scored touchdowns of 4 and 6 yards en route to a 78-yard day on the ground.
Sheridan wide receiver Boone Meyer put the exclamation point on the rivalry win with a 68-yard fly sweep for a touchdown.
"We started having big miscues," Bulldogs coach Tim France said. "Not everybody was firing on all cylinders like they were in the first half."
Willamina senior Coty Brown led the Bulldogs in rushing with 45 yards and a touchdown.
An interception, a lost fumble and two turnovers on downs hampered Willamina in the second half as the Spartans pressured the Bulldogs' young offensive line.
"Defensively, the second half, we locked up on a man and we sent our outside linebackers and we were able to contain them outside," Sheridan coach Brice Ingram said. "We went with four people going inside with one person staying in his flats. We were gambling, but sometimes we get lucky."

Banks 26, Yamhill-Carlton 0
Jacob Wood rushed for 109 yards on 24 carries and recorded nine tackles on defense, but Banks overwhelmed Yamhill-Carlton in Thursday night's Class 4A Cowapa League game in Yamhill.
Banks (7-0 overall, 4-0 Cowapa) held a 10-0 lead at halftime, bolstered by a 32-yard fumble return for a touchdown on a Tigers option pitch gone awry. The Braves scored 16 points in the third quarter to put the game out of Yamhill-Carlton's (2-5, 1-2 Cowapa) reach.
