THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL PORK BARREL SPENDING AND IT LOOKS LIKE S***. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE CHALLENGES Remy WHEN HER SEAT COMES UP.

ALPINE AVE THAT IS.

Well... I guess I like this idea better than installing flower beds in the middle of the street at 2nd and Adams & Baker streets.

It will be interesting to hear more public comments about the Alpine Street project.

Those comments have been interesting going back to when the project was conceived years ago; followed by a highly publicized planning grant/project; followed by the well-attended public input sessions for development of project plans; followed by even more highly publicized creation of an Urban Renewal District including the full Alpine plan; followed by widely publicized inclusion of initial stages of the Alpine project into the city transportation bond project that voters approved.

The Alpine project is a forward-looking development intended to be a nearby adjunct to the core downtown area as McMinnville goes through inevitable growth. It is a risky project in some ways, since development of the area may come slowly over years. But there was every form of public input solicited and received at every stage of the project going back 5 years.

I’m very excited to for this project. Ever since the renovation of the Grain Station building, this area has shown so much improvement. I look forward to the rest of the area’s transformation.

As for flower beds at the 2nd Street intersections...I love that idea as well. I hadn’t heard what was happening to the medians, but plants would be beautiful! Driving through Newberg, particularly on the south end, I’ve admired their plants in the center medians and along the roadside for years. They’re gorgeous!

What drew me to McMinnville years ago were the flower baskets and charm of the downtown. I’m happy to see that continuing.

DG----You might not love the idea as much if you have to deal with the congestion in that area on a regular basis.....With the Fire and Police departments and extensive traffic flow already on 2nd street (and likely to increase in coming years), street space is already at a premium.....using the little available space for flower beds doesn't make much sense IMO....
I'll be interested to see how often large trucks will drive over the divider while turning west onto 2nd from Adams.....
but you're right, they will look pretty....

If this works I'll be happy for the city. However I'm afraid it may become a homeless camp.

I suspect, tagup, the flower beds are less superfluous decoration than traffic separation devices, installed to bring a notoriously badly-designed pair of intersections up to current standards. The flower beds could just as easily have been made entirely of plain concrete, which would've probably made their purpose more obvious but would've been far less attractive.

I, for one, am glad the city saw fit to beautify one of McMinnville's most visible blocks. Sure, some motorists will hit the dividers but that's more a reflection on the lack of skill among drivers than it is on shoddy transportation planning -- accepted corner-radius minima were almost certainly considered during planning phases. My greater concern lies with your other point: increasing traffic in front of my house on Second Street.

It will be interesting to see how long it is before a truck drives across one, or both of those 2nd street flowerbeds. I am sure that there are many people, as am I, grateful for the left turn light from 2nd St. onto Adams Street. It will be interesting to see North Hill Road when it is completed. Looks like they are installing a two lane highway out there.

I hope paving several streets in these areas is in the plan. It's like driving 4 wheel drive trail on some of them, the way they have been hacked and patched.
