Surveillance photos trigger arrest

Sly, identified through surveillance photos, was booked on a warrant for absconding from post-prison supervision and a charge alleging possession of a controlled substance/methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office. Charges related to the metal theft are pending.

A man with a long history for drug use and theft, he was taken into custody in Northeast Salem, after he was observed on surveillance video arriving in a vehicle. Meth was found on his person at the time.

His two partners in the crime have also been identified. Their arrests are pending.

Three metal thieves were caught in the act by a surveillance camera. Distribution of the photos through the media led to their identification.

“The installation of cameras at this location was the key for my deputies being able to make this arrest,” said Sheriff Jack Crabtree. “The business should be applauded for taking that pro-active step.”

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Salem police and Marion County corrections in Sly’s apprehension. Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to call deputy Justin Brester at 503-434-7506.
