Snow wreaks havoc on prep sports schedules
Student-athletes across Yamhill County have been able to enjoy this weekend’s snowfall with impunity.
Basketball games and wrestling meets scheduled between Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon were all canceled after inclement weather made travel by road difficult. Information on specific schools is as follows:
The McMinnville wrestling team’s home dual meet against Newberg, scheduled for Feb. 6, has been canceled and will not be made up as both teams prepare for the Class 6A Special District 3 championships.
The McMinnville boys and girls basketball teams’ home contests against Century, scheduled for Feb. 7, were postponed and will be made up on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at McMinnville High School. The girls will play at 5:15 p.m., with the boys to follow at 6:45 p.m.
Yamhill-Carlton wrestling had a Class 4A Cowapa League meet scheduled for Feb. 7, with the Cowapa League district meet scheduled for Feb. 8 in Yamhill. Both events were postponed due to snowfall. The league meet will be made up on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m. at Yamhill-Carlton High School. The district meet will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, at Astoria High School, with wrestling expected to begin at 10 a.m.
The Y-C boys and girls basketball teams’ road games against Banks, scheduled for Feb. 7, were postponed and moved to Thursday, Feb. 13. The boys game will began at 5:30 p.m. in Banks, with the girls game to follow at 7 p.m.
The Amity boys and girls basketball teams’ games against Westside Christian, scheduled for Feb. 7, were postponed and moved to Wednesday, Feb. 12. Games will be played at West Hills Christian School in Portland; the girls will play at 6:45 p.m., with the boys to follow at 8:15 p.m.
Amity wrestling – along with Sheridan and Willamina – was scheduled to compete in a Class 3A Special District 2 meet in Harrisburg on Feb. 6. That league meet was canceled and will not be made up.
The Dayton boys and girls basketball teams’ games against Gervais, scheduled for Feb. 7, were postponed and moved to Wednesday, Feb. 12. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m. in Gervais, with the boys slated to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Dayton wrestling had been scheduled to attend a meet at Santiam Christian High School in Adair Village on Feb. 6. The meet was canceled; a makeup date is unknown.
Sheridan and Willamina were slated to play basketball against each other on Feb. 7. Those games were postponed and will be made up Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Sheridan. The girls will play at 6 p.m.; the boys’ game begins at 7:30 p.m.
Linfield men’s and women’s basketball had road games at Lewis & Clark on Feb. 7 and home games against Puget Sound on Feb. 8 postponed due to weather. The Wildcats will travel to Portland tonight to face the Pioneers; the women’s game begins at 6 p.m. and the men’s game begins at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, Linfield will make up its postponed games against Willamette at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at 8 p.m.
