Sheridan names superintendent finalists
SHERIDAN — Curriculum directors Cory Bradshaw of the Dallas School District and Steve Sugg of the Sherwood School District have been tabbed as finalists for the position of superintendent in the Sheridan district, Business Manager DeAnn O'Neil announced Friday.
A.J. Grauer is retiring at the end of the school year. Either Bradshaw, who was a finalist for the Amity superintendent's position a year ago as Reg McShane neared retirement, or Sugg will go to work in Sheridan starting July 1.
Fifteen individuals initially applied for the job. None were from the Sheridan district. The group was pared to six, five Oregonians and one individual from Washington.
Two interviews were conducted by the board in executive session on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. With assistance from an Oregon School Boards Association representative, the board settled on Bradshaw and Sugg as its finalists.
Bradshaw and Sugg will visit Sheridan throughout the day next Wednesday. They will first meet with building principals, staff members and have lunch with Grauer and/or board Chair Judy Breeden.
A community meet-and-greet involving Sugg will be held at 4:15 p.m. and one involving Bradshaw will be held at 5:30 at the high school. They are expected to last about one hour each.
The board has scheduled site visits in Dallas and Sherwood next Thursday. Following those site visits, it will discuss in executive session at 4 p.m. the qualifications of each candidate and, in all likelihood, come to a consensus regarding who it wants to hire. When it convenes in open session, it will vote to offer the job to one of the candidates.
The board will officially make the hire at its Wednesday, Feb. 20 board meeting.
See Tuesday's print edition for additional details.
