Sex abuse case is dropped

James Lee Bunn Jr., 35, who has been free on bail, was scheduled to go on trial last week.

However, Deputy District Attorney Lisl Miller filed a motion for dismissal, based on a belief the prosecution lacked evidence sufficient for a conviction.

Bunn was accused of having improper contact with the girl between March 2011 and July 2013. He was ultimately indicted on nine counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of first-degree sodomy and one count of first-degree sexual penetration — a mix of Class A and B felonies, some falling under Measure 11 mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines.

Bunn emphatically denied the charges. The defense was handled by Frank Stoller of Dundee, who said Bunn felt from the outset that he would be fully exonerated.

“Mr. Bunn and I are very gratified by the fact that a judgment of dismissal of all charges has been signed by the judge and filed in the case,” Stoller said.”Living under the cloud of false charges for two years has been a tremendous ordeal for him and his family.”
