Scam targets natural gas users
Several commercial customers of Northwest Natural Gas have been targeted in a recent phone scam, the company warns.
The scammers tell customers their account is past due and their gas will be shut off unless they wire cash immediately. The company said it may call about a past-due account, but will never as a customer to wire money.
So far, seven customers have reported receiving such calls. And in fact, none of them had a delinquent account.
Anyone receiving a bogus call of this nature is asked to notify local police, then phone a report to Northwest Natural Gas, toll-free, at 800-422-4012.
