School raising funds to help teacher

Longtime teacher Leslie Scott of Sheridan suffers from myelodysplastic syndrome and B cell lymphoma, according to co-workers. She will be undergoing a year-long process to receive donor marrow and rebuild her system.

“Leslie has been there for our children,” says a flier distributed by the school. “She has been selfless in her battle.

“We are sure she never thought she would need to have our help like this. Please help us in showing her the support of our Montessori Community by helping her in any way that you can during this trying time.”

Well-wishers hope to raise at least $6,000 through direct donations and a fundraiser called the Montessori Discover Spring Fun Run.

A Be the Match program will be incorporated into the event. It is designed to identify and sign up potential marrow donors and register their DNA profile through a simple oral swab.

The events are set for Saturday, April 20, at the school. It is located at 1101 Brooks St.

Checks in Scott’s name can also be mailed to or dropped off at the school. Travelers’ checks represent an additional option.
