River Rock closes Wheatland Ferry until further notice
Mar 22, 2014
WHEATLAND — The Wheatland Ferry will be closed until further notice due to the volume and duration of hgh water, according to the Marion County Public Works Department.
A large amount of river rock has washed into the path of the ferry, raising the bottom of the river several feet. This situation causes the ferry to hit river bottom at a much higher river level than normal.
The ferry was scheduled to operate through Saturday with restricted loads. The ferry will be taken out of operation beginning Sunday until further notice.
"Our staff is committed to operating all days possible," Senior Ferry Operator Ed Ferry said.
The next river level high enough to operate is projected to be Sunday, March 30.
