Pursuit ends at police station

A vehicle pursuit ended Monday afternoon at one of the best places possible for McMinnville police - the parking lot of their station.

The driver was identified as Joe Kennes Hill Jr., 66, of Carlton. He was charged with one count each of driving under the influence of intoxicants, felony attempt to elude a police officer and reckless driving. He is lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $15,000 bail.

Capt. Dennis Marks gave this account:

About 4:30 p.m., a white Datsun sedan was reported to be on Loop Road, off Highway 18, and occupied by an older male who appeared to be possibly intoxicated.

Officers spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 18 near Norton Lane in the area of the Willamette Valley Medical Center.

A traffic stop was initiated and Hill pulled over on South Highway 99W in the area of Southeast Booth Bend Road However, he fled the scene in the vehicle after officers had obtained his personal and vehicle information.

Minutes later, Hill drove into the police department parking lot. When he failed to obey officer commands, he was tased and taken into custody.

Hill was transported to jail after being medically cleared as a result of the tasing. He told officers he wanted them to shoot him.
