Preseason honors bestowed upon Wildcats

Linfield offensive tackle Steven Schultz and defensive tackle Brynnan Hyland have been named preseason All-Americans by Schultz was named first-team preseason All-America, while Hyland claimed a spot on the second team.

Schultz, a senior from Tacoma, Washington, has played in all 35 games in his career with the Wildcats, starting 34. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound left tackle was named to the Northwest Conference first team and the West Region first team in 2013.

Hyland, a senior from Eugene, spent the 2013 season recovering from knee injuries suffered in the preseason. In 2012, Hyland earned first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association and He recorded 43 tackles (20.5 for loss), 19 sacks and two forced fumbles for the Wildcats in 2012 as Linfield reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinals before falling to Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Wildcats are coming off an 11-1 season in 2013, going undefeated in Northwest Conference play and reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Linfield fell to eventual national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater on Dec. 7.

The Wildcats open the 2014 season on the road against Chapman University on Sept. 13 in Orange, California. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
