Portland man killed in Highway 18 crash

 WILLAMINA - A Portland man was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 18 in the area of the Wallace Bridge.

The Oregon State Police identified the victim as Juan Bermudez Gutierrez. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP gave this account of the 8 a.m. crash:

Jose Bermudez Gutierrez, 30, of Portland, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound when the car left the highway and struck a tree. He and the right-front passenger who was killed were brothers. Jose was hospitalized with minor injuries. The right-rear passenger, Brian Quintana, 22, of Portland, was transported to Oregon Health & Science University with critical injuries.

Alcohol and drug use are being investigated as contributing factors in the crash.

In addition to OSP, the West Valley Fire District and the Polk County District Attorney's Office and Medical examiner responded to the scene.

An Oregon Department of Transportation crew handled traffic control.
