News-Register Letters Policy
The News-Register welcomes written opinions about issues of public interest and about the content of this newspaper. Letters from non-local writers are accepted only if they focus on local issues.
Letters should not exceed 300 words.
Letters may be edited for brevity and libel.
Include name and signature of the writer. Also include street address, city and daytime telephone number for verification -- only the writer's name and city are published.
Please indicate occupational, family and financial ties to letter topics.
Letters should be typed or legibly handwritten.
Writers are limited to one letter per month, with subject matter changing from previous letters.
With rare exceptions, campaign-related letters are not accepted from political candidates, their immediate family members or campaign staff.
As a rule, we do not publish letters about conflicts between a private individual and a private business, or letters about the alleged guilt, innocence or evidenciary accuracy of legal or judicial cases.
Deadline for Saturday publication in the newspaper is noon Thursday. Submit letters to: Readers' Forum, News-Register, P.O. Box 727, McMinnville, OR 97128; by fax at (503) 472-9151; by e-mail to letters@newsregister.com; by using our online submission form; or in person at 611 N.E. Third Street, McMinnville.
Writers should not engage in personal attacks. Factual errors will be corrected after discussion with the writer. An editor's note may be added to correct or clarify an issue.
