Newberg motorcyclist dies

He died at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where he had been transported for treatment of critical injuries.

Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police gave this account:

Peterson was southbound about 7 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. He was ejected onto a grassy area adjacent to the highway.

Troopers said he was wearing a protective helmet. They said there were indications alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Newberg and Dundee fire departments and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

The crash closed the highway for more than two hours.
