NEWBERG — A Newberg man was arrested Wednesday on charges that allege he attacked his former roommate while the victim was sleeping.
Cory Blaze Sabins, 24, of 217 Old Highway 99W, was charged with one count each of second-degree assault, recklessly endangering another person and strangulation. He was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $160,000 bail.
Second-degree assault is a Class B felony and potentially falls under Measure 11 mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines.
Capt. Jeff Kosmicki of the Newberg-Dundee police gave this account:
The unidentified male victim, who listed his address as 905 S. College St., reported he was placed in a choke hold by Sabins. The victim was bleeding from head wounds when officers arrived at the residence. He refused treatment.
Sabins turned himself in at the Newberg-Dundee Police Department and was taken into custody.
